With every season comes the need to select a few favorites from your closet that you know you can put on when last minute plans pop-up. We all know and love the trusty LBD, no use in killing a classic right? I say wrong! Well, sort of. I have a couple LBDs that I have on standby for nicer occasions, but when it comes to summer, I want an alternative that’s a little more playful and that I know I can move around in without flashing everyone the second I bend over. Enter the Little Black Romper. Keep reading for my style tips, and shop my favorite black rompers at the bottom <3
How I Styled It
This romper has been a favorite of my for two summers now, but it certainly didn’t start out that way. I bought it on clearance without trying it on and was a little bummed out the first time I did. It was loose and baggy in the worst ways – and you know that is typically my favorite kind of outfit. With the low slung arm-holes and the deep v, plus the leg holes that were a smidge too small for my thighs, I looked like I was wearing a wrestling uniform that was too big. I put it in my closet and tried it on 3 or 4 more times over the course of a few months before I finally found a way to wear it. Adding the black belt to give me a shape again changed the way I saw the romper. Now the pockets were near my hips, where extra volume makes sense, and some of the extra fabric can be moved around to give me room up top or on bottom depending on what I wear underneath. I chose a pretty lace bralette to keep things covered without adding any extra layers (summer gets hot, man!) Finally I’m wearing my favorite beaded tropical slides, they are my pop of color to help give a little oomph to all the black.
