How many of you do a full wardrobe swap from season to season? Like full blown pull-out-the-storage-bins and pack away a passing season’s clothing? I’m willing to bet, aside from a few very season specific pieces (think sweaters and shorts,) you are like me and don’t do much of a swap because you don’t have enough clothes for that to make sense and you lack the extra storage space.

I try to use each item in my closet in as many ways as I can. Layering T’s and tanks with sweaters and jackets and dresses when it’s cold. Adding a long sleeve under a kimono in the winter to make it less beach-y and more cozy. All of these tricks are great, but it’s also nice to have a few pieces that transition effortlessly from season to season. This bell sleeve button up definitely checks that box for me. One of my favorite rules of thumb when I am thinking about buying something is to be sure I can wear it with at least three different items in my closet. For example, when I bought this shirt, I envisioned it with:

  1. My favorite super flared pants + platform boots in the fall
  2. Cut-offs and lace up sandals on mild summer days
  3. Tied (think Britney in Hit Me Baby One More Time video) over a fitted black cotton dress

I love the volume in the sleeves and the length of the shirt overall. When I’m wearing this baggy of a top with shorts I do a half tuck to give the outfit a little shape. I style it differently with pants depending on the type of pants I wear. With super tight pants, I tend to keep the button up completely un-tucked and with baggier pants I tuck the front in and leave the back un-tucked. These simple switches give one shirt so much versatility and make it fun to wear over and over again. Being able to wear this shirt repeatedly without getting bored with it is the key that makes this such a great transition piece.
