Graphic-T + Patterned Shorts | The Perfect Daytime Outfit Combo

Graphic-T + Patterned Shorts | The Perfect Daytime Outfit Combo

You have a hot date with that guy you met at the concert the other night. He had that cool-guy look where you’re not totally sure if he’s a mechanic or a self-made millionaire with a motorcycle collection. You are going for late afternoon drinks on a Sunday by the water, and if things go well you’ll be walking down the pier and sitting in the sun’s glow until it sets.

So. What do you wear? You want to be comfortable, there’s no reason to add any pressure of feeling like you can’t move when you are hanging out with someone solo for the first time.

My vote is for the effortless-looking combo of a graphic-t and pattern-packed shorts. Tie the T in the front to accentuate the higher waist of the shorts, add some fun over-sized sunnies plus nude sandals and you are set.

About the Details

One good graphic-t is all you really need. That’s the beauty of them – their versatility. I have always had a weird thing about wearing old band t-shirts bc I was afraid someone would walk up to me and start talking about a song and it wouldn’t be one I knew and then I’d be locked in this awkward conversation of, “Oh…well I like this other song…and also I just liked this t-shirt.” This fear is completely unrealistic because how many random people come up to you and start having an in-depth convo AND you see these types of shirts everywhere. Nonetheless, I was on the hunt for a graphic t that had the same vibe but none of the implied knowledge. Enter the Super Loved shirt. The second I saw it I knew it was the one, few other things in life have had the courtesy of giving me that certainty. I picked it up, checked out at the cashier, and we have been happily united ever since. I wear it all the time, and one of my favorite summertime combo’s this year is pairing it with these fantastic lemon shorts.

WHO DOESN’T LOVE FLOWY SHORTS COVERED IN LEMONS??

With their elastic waist and flowy cut, the lemon shorts feel more like pj’s than day-wear and I will love them forever for that. Finding this pair with a higher waist was a big win, I feel like a million bucks when I put high-waisted anything on. By tieing the bottom of my t-shirt to expose the shorts  instead of tucking it in, I was able to keep from adding extra bulk under the shorts. Always a bonus!

I opted for nude sandals to help bring some balance to everything else I was wearing. If I were wearing this outfit for a night out I would probably go for some bright red platform sandals.

Wear It With Confidence

My favorite part about this outfit is that it makes me feel good. It’s fun and interesting and it feels like it has some of my personality worked into it. The best way to make this outfit yours is to take the basic principle and work your own favorites into it.

You love your vintage looking college T or that ‘HOPE’ shirt from when Obama was campaigning in ‘08? Cool, wear that on top.

Feel uncomfortable in sandals because you need to run after a small child or animal at a seconds notice? Pair it with nude sneakers that have simple details and you are good to go.

Early Riser | 7 Brunch Outfit Ideas for Rolling Out of Bed & Getting Your Champagne On

Early Riser | 7 Brunch Outfit Ideas for Rolling Out of Bed & Getting Your Champagne On

Photos by Julia Dent

Everyone loves a good brunch with friends. You know what else everyone loves? Having a no-stress outfit ready to go in their mind for when they roll out of bed to get their champagne on. I got together with seven of my fav style bloggers for brunch at Butcher Bar in Philly to share our best brunch outfits with you.

My favorite Brunch Outfit

Typically I am an ‘early’ riser. In quotes because I know plenty of you wake up at 5 & 6, but I don’t go to bed until 1 or 2 and I really like sleep 🤗  On an average Saturday or Sunday I wake up around 8 and get straight to work on projects. This way, by 1 or 2 I’m ready to join the world of activity-goers guilt-free, knowing I’ve taken care of what I need to.

That said, most of my brunch dates happen around 11am. Brunch mornings tend to consist of me running around like a lunatic trying to get everything done by 11 instead of 1 or 2 and then throwing clothes on and hopping on my bike. As we all know, brunch is an event. You look forward to it all week and, if you’re past the time in your life where going to the bar every weekend night is a thing, it’s your main social event for the weekend. The person at the table to your left is def snapping food pics and the table diagonal to you is 100% taking Snapchat selfies of the group with their cocktails. So…you want to look good. For me, the trick is to have an outfit in my back pocket that looks put together but is super low maintenance.

Enter overalls. This pair of overalls has quickly become a closet favorite in the two weeks since I bought them (on sale 💃🏼) at free people. I can throw them on with a top and it’s almost as easy as wearing a dress with the added bonus that I can bike without showing everyone my 🍑.

All Floral Everything | Styling a Floral Jumpsuit + 6 More Style Options

Florals, florals, florals. I actually really love florals. I want plants to be surrounding me in every possible way – hanging from the ceiling, in a pot on the shelf, growing tall in my garden….and maybe on my new favorite floral jumpsuit. Last month’s PHLbloggers style shoot was all about florals and I was SUPER excited about it and am even more excited to share it.

How I Styled It

I got this jumpsuit from Flynn Skye back in February and have been dying to wear it. It has all the makings for an excellent spring & summer staple. It’s loose and flowy, so it won’t stick to my sweaty bod when it gets hot and humid here. It’s got some cool details in the lace up front. The blue is a really beautiful color and the floral pattern is fun. PLUS it has pockets.

I went blue on blue and added my favorite backpack from sticks and stones. This thing is AMAZING. The blue is beautiful and it holds absolutely everything. The other day I started at a coffee shop reading. While I was in the coffee shop, the bag held my portable phone charger + phone + chapstick + wallet + water bottle + glasses case + sunglasses. After I left the coffee shop to go on for a day of adventures… it had all of that and a hardcover book. Helloooo favorite bag ever.

Anyway, I love a good jumpsuit, and I am not alone. In case you didn’t notice in the group photo, a few of us showed up in floral jumpsuits. They are seriously the greatest and look fantastic on EVERYONE (did you see the denim jumpsuit I picked up a couple weeks ago??) One of my favorite parts of so many of us wearing ‘the same’ thing is seeing how different that same thing is just by changing a few colors and accessories.

Spring Wardrobe Updates | Five Ways to Style a Kimono

I have officially switched into spring/summer dressing mode. I am so happy about it! As adults we don’t really get the opportunity to do a full wardrobe overhaul for each season like we did as kids. There’s that whole us not drastically changing sizes/heights thing…and then there’s the fact that we have to foot the bill. Nothing like paying for yourself to fully appreciate how much our parents sacrificed to get us new sneakers every time we wore them through, lol. It IS fun to get a few new things each season to help refresh without having to do a full overhaul, and spring definitely brings that out.

I have finally felt the first burst of spring weather and I am so excited about it – last weekend I got sunburnt sitting on a friend’s roof and now I’m sitting in Mississippi, working from my Mom’s house, on a porch swing. Both of these things were so needed I can’t even explain it to you. I like winter ok, but I am partial to spending at least 60% of my time outside and that is hard to do in a NE winter (even a mild one.)

In the excitement of the new weather, and the presence of my mom :), I decided to go on a try-on spree in hopes of finding one or two items to freshen up my spring/summer options. I got this great kimono Tobi and wanted to test out some different ways to wear it. I have had a few awesome wraps like this over the years but I never end up wearing them much and I want to make sure this one gets a fair shake.

I tried on quite a few things, but these five were in the final running.

I tried two separate pairs of joggers with a simple sheer t-shirt. This would be awesome for a day of errands or lounging outside. Buy It: kimono | t-shirt | joggers

I ended up getting this pair of joggers, they are an awesome olive green and SO soft! Buy It: kimonot-shirt | joggers

How cute is this combo? It’s so simple, but so comfy and looks like it took way more effort than it did… I love a good t-shirt dress combo. Buy it: kimono | dress

kimono-romper-dillards-tobi

This romper is super cute, but a little short in the back. The kind of short where when you bend over your whole butt flashes…the kimono is the perfect solution to make it more wearable without having to watch your movement. Buy It: kimono | romper

This combo is the perfect blend of fitted + flowy. Both of the fabrics are super light-weight so it would be awesome for long days outside when you want a break from cut-offs and a t-shirt. Buy It: kimono | jumpsuit

And The Winner Is…

I ended up going with this jumpsuit because DUH. I am totally obsessed with it, and hoping that I still like it as much once I get it hemmed. Have any other shorties out there noticed that you get so used to having all the extra fabric at the bottom of pants growing up that once you get to an age where having things tailored actually makes sense, having things the proper length feels weird? No? Just me? Ok.

A T-shirt Dress & Fancy Bomber Jacket | The Ultimate Easy-to-Wear Outfit

A T-shirt Dress & Fancy Bomber Jacket | The Ultimate Easy-to-Wear Outfit

Photos by Timmy

Hallelujah for t-shirt dresses and fancy looking bomber jackets! I am a big fan of outfits that make me feel put together but require little to no effort. This t-shirt dress and bomber jacket combo do exactly that. Plus this combo falls into the category of clothes that do not touch my body, so they automatically rank higher in my book.

Bandana (similar) | Sunnies (similar) | Lariat Necklace (similar) | Bomber (similar) | T-shirt Dress | Purse

I spent most of this weekend painting the second floor of my house (YAY!) Sometimes when I get going on a project there is no taking a break and DEFINITELY no stopping half-way through. The second floor paint job included my bedroom, which has been on my list of rooms to make feel more me for a while, if you read my last bedroom updates post – you know. I already had plans to venture out Saturday morning, though so venture out I did! This outfit is the perfect blend of easy-to-wear and cute, so I looked put together but pretty much threw it on and was ready to head out the door in under 15 minutes including makeup.

Overall the t-shirt dress + bomber jacket combo = Gold 🙂 Fingers crossed for more warm-ish days!

Layered Ruffles | 6 Bloggers Take on the Ruffle Trend

Layered Ruffles | 6 Bloggers Take on the Ruffle Trend

I recently got together with a few ladies from PHLbloggers to do a group styling event. It was really fun, we selected a trend (ruffles) and each styled our own take on it. Admittedly – ruffles are not the first trend that jump to mind when I think of my ideal outfit. But like I said last week, layering is key and that’s exactly how I chose to attack the ruffled trend – layered ruffles.

Look at all these babes!

Two things I swear by when picking out an outfit are layers and comfort. Not only do I want to be physically comfortable, but I also want to be confident. When it comes to giving trends a try, I like to mix the new item with things I am already confident in and wear regularly. I like to start with a smaller trend-piece so I can feel it out and adjust to it. Gotta make sure not to scare myself away from the trend all together!

For the ruffled piece, I went with a low-cut top and layered it with a flowy wrap. I paired the tops with my Show Me Your MuMu Flares, a closet staple for me. I bought these when flare pants were just becoming trendy again and I haven’t taken them off since – never underestimate the power of a trend to become a staple. To finish the look off, I wore a thin gold lariat necklace and a gold choker. Choosing delicate accessories let the ruffles and flares shine while pulling everything together.
