Florals, florals, florals. I actually really love florals. I want plants to be surrounding me in every possible way – hanging from the ceiling, in a pot on the shelf, growing tall in my garden….and maybe on my new favorite floral jumpsuit. Last month’s PHLbloggers style shoot was all about florals and I was SUPER excited about it and am even more excited to share it.
How I Styled It
I got this jumpsuit from Flynn Skye back in February and have been dying to wear it. It has all the makings for an excellent spring & summer staple. It’s loose and flowy, so it won’t stick to my sweaty bod when it gets hot and humid here. It’s got some cool details in the lace up front. The blue is a really beautiful color and the floral pattern is fun. PLUS it has pockets.
I went blue on blue and added my favorite backpack from sticks and stones. This thing is AMAZING. The blue is beautiful and it holds absolutely everything. The other day I started at a coffee shop reading. While I was in the coffee shop, the bag held my portable phone charger + phone + chapstick + wallet + water bottle + glasses case + sunglasses. After I left the coffee shop to go on for a day of adventures… it had all of that and a hardcover book. Helloooo favorite bag ever.
Anyway, I love a good jumpsuit, and I am not alone. In case you didn’t notice in the group photo, a few of us showed up in floral jumpsuits. They are seriously the greatest and look fantastic on EVERYONE (did you see the denim jumpsuit I picked up a couple weeks ago??) One of my favorite parts of so many of us wearing ‘the same’ thing is seeing how different that same thing is just by changing a few colors and accessories.
Six More Ways to Wear Florals
I have officially switched into spring/summer dressing mode. I am so happy about it! As adults we don’t really get the opportunity to do a full wardrobe overhaul for each season like we did as kids. There’s that whole us not drastically changing sizes/heights thing…and then there’s the fact that we have to foot the bill. Nothing like paying for yourself to fully appreciate how much our parents sacrificed to get us new sneakers every time we wore them through, lol. It IS fun to get a few new things each season to help refresh without having to do a full overhaul, and spring definitely brings that out.
I have finally felt the first burst of spring weather and I am so excited about it – last weekend I got sunburnt sitting on a friend’s roof and now I’m sitting in Mississippi, working from my Mom’s house, on a porch swing. Both of these things were so needed I can’t even explain it to you. I like winter ok, but I am partial to spending at least 60% of my time outside and that is hard to do in a NE winter (even a mild one.)
In the excitement of the new weather, and the presence of my mom :), I decided to go on a try-on spree in hopes of finding one or two items to freshen up my spring/summer options. I got this great kimono ℅ Tobi and wanted to test out some different ways to wear it. I have had a few awesome wraps like this over the years but I never end up wearing them much and I want to make sure this one gets a fair shake.
I tried on quite a few things, but these five were in the final running.
And The Winner Is…
I ended up going with this jumpsuit because DUH. I am totally obsessed with it, and hoping that I still like it as much once I get it hemmed. Have any other shorties out there noticed that you get so used to having all the extra fabric at the bottom of pants growing up that once you get to an age where having things tailored actually makes sense, having things the proper length feels weird? No? Just me? Ok.

Hallelujah for t-shirt dresses and fancy looking bomber jackets! I am a big fan of outfits that make me feel put together but require little to no effort. This t-shirt dress and bomber jacket combo do exactly that. Plus this combo falls into the category of clothes that do not touch my body, so they automatically rank higher in my book.
I spent most of this weekend painting the second floor of my house (YAY!) Sometimes when I get going on a project there is no taking a break and DEFINITELY no stopping half-way through. The second floor paint job included my bedroom, which has been on my list of rooms to make feel more me for a while, if you read my last bedroom updates post – you know. I already had plans to venture out Saturday morning, though so venture out I did! This outfit is the perfect blend of easy-to-wear and cute, so I looked put together but pretty much threw it on and was ready to head out the door in under 15 minutes including makeup.
Overall the t-shirt dress + bomber jacket combo = Gold 🙂 Fingers crossed for more warm-ish days!
I recently got together with a few ladies from PHLbloggers to do a group styling event. It was really fun, we selected a trend (ruffles) and each styled our own take on it. Admittedly – ruffles are not the first trend that jump to mind when I think of my ideal outfit. But like I said last week, layering is key and that’s exactly how I chose to attack the ruffled trend – layered ruffles.
Two things I swear by when picking out an outfit are layers and comfort. Not only do I want to be physically comfortable, but I also want to be confident. When it comes to giving trends a try, I like to mix the new item with things I am already confident in and wear regularly. I like to start with a smaller trend-piece so I can feel it out and adjust to it. Gotta make sure not to scare myself away from the trend all together!
For the ruffled piece, I went with a low-cut top and layered it with a flowy wrap. I paired the tops with my Show Me Your MuMu Flares, a closet staple for me. I bought these when flare pants were just becoming trendy again and I haven’t taken them off since – never underestimate the power of a trend to become a staple. To finish the look off, I wore a thin gold lariat necklace and a gold choker. Choosing delicate accessories let the ruffles and flares shine while pulling everything together.
Check out how the other ladies styled ruffles below!

With the crazy weather we have been having, I put together an outfit that layers some of my favorite warm-weather items with a few of my best cold-weather pieces. It’s an outfit ideal for the days when it’s warm in the afternoon, but the morning and evening are still kind of chilly. The focus for me is 100% on layers. And coffee.
It seems like the weather has been a little wild all over the U.S. this winter. Growing up in Colorado, I got used to layering because you knew that even though it was 15 degrees in the morning…it would be sunny and 70 by 2pm. When I moved to the Northeast, the seasons became a little more predictable. Winter = Cold. Like, REALLY cold. Well, for the last couple years the winters have been much less predictable. One day its 70 and the next it’s 22, so versatility and layers are back at the top of my game.
This outfit layers for two different types of weather. My long winter coat has me covered (literally) for the colder parts of the day and the layers underneath have me set for the warm, sunnier hours.
Underneath my favorite winter coat, I wore one of my favorite Reformation dresses, that I got from their last sale, as a shirt (similar here.) I took advantage of the button front and tied it at the bottom to make it into a shirt. I wanted to make the dress work because the off-the-shoulder neckline highlights one of my favorite necklaces. My shoes are Kelsey Dagger Mules and they are my absolute favorite right now, I’ve been super excited to break them out and mak them my go-to shoes for spring. The leather is so soft that they were comfortable right out of the box AND they come up high enough on your foot to stay on during longer walks. To bring things back to being super casual and easy, I wore my Trashed Freebirds from OneTeaspoon (similar here.)
